Fear the Farm

The Haunted Farm south of Moorhead is expecting a bumper crop of fear this year.

Last Halloween season saw the attendance fall as the weather was not very cooperative. The Haunted Farm is ready for a much better season, as the attraction are improved with some good weather, the attendance is expected to be good this year, owner Mel Nygaard says.

The farm located 10 miles south of Moorhead on Highway 75 continues with many of crowd favorites such as the spooky clown room and an eery dark maze this year. There is the jaunt through 300 feet of cemetery and Haunted woods trail, Nygaard says.

The farm may offer the longest tour of any such attraction in the country, Nygaard says, adding he bases the claim on information collected at a recent meeting of the International Association of Haunted Attractions in Chicago.

Nygaard has operated the farm for about 16 years but it didn’t become a serious business until about nine years ago, he says.

Admission during the Haunted Preview has been reduced to $8.00 for the weekend of October 4th. Admission is $12 per person. A $17 VIP ticket will provide admission and also bumps a customer to the head of the line for the Haunted Farm.

About 30 to 40 people volunteer at the farm, says Jennifer Nygaard, who helps her father with the operation. For the volunteers, being a ghoul is cool and no pay is required, she says. “We kind of let our actors go. They have so much fun,” she says.
